Khamseh Bag Face

The Khamseh “pomegranate” design is thought to be a vestige of Eastern Turkistan. Often found on rugs, one can view this bag face as a miniature rug. Despite the medallion’s large scale, the weaver managed to place 16 birds in the field. Note the use of a darker madder shade to outline the flower petals and chicken feathers.
